Blue Peter has launched their official Blue Peter Appeal for 2009 and here at Mitzvah Day we are jumping on the band wagon! The concept is simple: bring in an old, colourful t-shirt, cut it and tie it in a certain way, decorate it and then donate to the Blue Peter Appeal who are working in conjunction with Operation Smile who use the t-shirts as hospital gowns for children who are having operations on cleft palates in developing countries. For every gown donated, they save £3 which can then be spent on the actual operation. This is a fantastic, simple projects for kids!
Oxford Jewish Congregation
The OJC is unique in the UK because it is an Orthodox Congregation that has chosen to encourage under one roof Orthodox, Masorti and Progressive forms of prayer, sometimes simultaneously, in different parts of the building. Though small in size we aim to provide for the needs of all Jews in Oxford, whether residents, students or visitors. Our members are varied as to their background, knowledge and traditions, and they form a community which is enriched by the variety of its parts.
There are a wide range of social, cultural, educational and religious activities at the OJC Centre.
