Hundreds in charity help

Hundreds of people from Liverpool’s Jewish Community supported local charities as part of Mitzvah Day.

The city project – one of around 250 going on around the country on Sunday saw volunteers collecting clothes, books and toys for charities including Zoë’s Place and Barnardo’s.

Activities included packing food parcels for the needy and wrapping toy packages for disadvantaged children.

Fairy cakes were also baked for residents of Stapely Home in Mossely Hill.

Liverpool organiser Jessica Bernstein said: “In these credit crunch times it’s good to know we can all still do our bit for charity by giving not cash but a little time.  That’s what Mitzvah Day is all about and I am delighted that so many people turned out to support our event.”
